I mean, in comparison to things like Playstation Plus or a Netflix subscription this is pretty fair and is actually cheaper than PS+ depending on factors.
There is also the fact that you can get a membership for MULTIPLE accounts at a discount, compared to other companies that charge you full price for every other account you want it on.
Yeah, it sucks to pay for this stuff, but you guys do realize keeping online functionality and servers can cost quite a bit of money for upkeep, protection, ect right?
The quality of Nintendo's online service is remarkably worse than Playstation Plus as their services are incredibly outdated and the online experience the games provide in general are terrible. There may be improvements in the future, but it has been 3 years and we have yet to see any improvement.
Their emulation service does not come close to meeting the quality of emulators you can get for free and they have region-locked the ROMs. Not only that, but they have failed to provide the ROMs that their userbase actually wants (like Mother). They would also dripfeed the content instead of just making it available.
Comparing the pricing to other companies is irrelevant. Nintendo's service is garbage. Nintendo is the richest company in all of Japan, they have more than enough money to keep their service up and make it better without charging people for online. Online was free during the WiiU era and that was Nintendo at one of its lowest points in history.

a) hilarious and on brand for DARE
b) if they’d oriented the pencil the other way then as you sharpened it it’d end up saying ‘Too Cool to Do/Too Cool to/Too Cool/Too’ and honestly ¾ of those are still pretty hysterical
